Principal's Message
Hello Zeh Families,
What a great first few days we have had together! I have really enjoyed meeting our new students and welcoming back our returning students. With the addition of preschool, I have quite a few new names to learn! We had a wonderful time at our first Zebra Families and Community Meeting this morning, and it was great to see our students coming together as a community. It is going to be a fun year!
Next Thursday, September 10, we will have an early release day for all students. Preschool will be dismissed at 11:00, and K–5 will be dismissed at 11:40. That evening, we will host our K–5 Open House from 6:00–7:30. This is a drop-in event, and the whole family is welcome! Come meet your child’s teacher and visit with the other staff members your child may see throughout the school day. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
I’d like to share a few reminders. Our student handbook states: “Students are encouraged to avoid bringing cell phones and other electronic devices to school. If a student brings a cell phone or other electronic device to school, it must be turned OFF and kept in a backpack during the school day.” This includes smartwatches. While we understand that families may want to stay in touch with their children throughout the day, texting and calling can be distracting and interrupt learning. If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call the office or email their classroom teacher, and we will make sure your message is delivered. Unless there is a specific plan in place between the school and family, if a student brings a device to school, we will ask them to keep it turned off and in their backpack. If this continues to be an issue, the device will be kept in the office for a family member to pick up.
Along the same lines, we ask that families not send their children to school with toys, stuffed animals, or fidgets unless there is a specific plan in place between the school and family. These items can distract students from learning activities and create concerns when misplaced or lost. As with electronic devices, students who bring these items to school will be asked to keep them in their backpacks or the office if it becomes a repeated problem.

Lunch on Early Release Day (September 10th)
This year, we will be offering lunch on early release days. Our first one will be next Thursday, September 10th. Just like on full school days, students will have the option to order lunch during morning attendance. At 10:30, lunches will be delivered to classrooms and can be eaten during the regular classroom snack time. Students who do not order lunch should still bring a snack as they normally would. Unfortunately, we are not able to send lunches home with students. This is a new option for us, so please let us know if you have any questions!

Allergy Notice
Attention Zeh School Parents/Guardians,
This notice is to inform you there are children in school with severe peanut/nut allergies. Any exposure to peanuts/nuts, through contact or ingestion, can cause a life threatening reaction requiring emergency medical treatment. Strict avoidance of peanut/nut products is the only way to prevent a life threatening allergic reaction. We are asking for your assistance in providing these students with a safe learning environment.
To reduce the risk of exposure, the classroom will be peanut/nut safe. Please do not send any peanut or nut containing products (such as Nutella) for your child to eat during snack time in the classroom. If your child has eaten peanut or nut products before coming to school, please be sure your child’s hands have been thoroughly washed prior to entering school.
Since lunch is eaten in the cafeteria, your child may bring peanut butter, peanut or nut products for lunch. If your child has peanuts or nuts, they should not sit in the seat right beside their classmate with an allergy, they should be at least one seat away. This plan will help to maintain safety in the classroom while allowing non-allergic classmates to enjoy peanut/nut products in the cafeteria.
While we appreciate that this may feel like an inconvenience, please think how grateful you would be if it were your own child’s health and safety that others were taking into consideration.

Call for Student Artwork for Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month
The Hispanic and Latin Organization of Leaders in Action (HOLA), an employee resource group at DESE, invites student artists to submit their artwork about Hispanic or Latino identity or culture to be featured in DESE’s Board meeting rooms in late September in honor of Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month. The theme is “Our Diversity is Our Strength.” Students may submit originals or copies of visual art – including but not necessarily limited to drawings, collages, paintings, murals, sculptures, computer illustrations, and photographs. Students may submit work created specifically for this event or work created previously that fits the theme. The selection committee will prioritize showcasing work from a variety of schools across the Commonwealth. Submissions are due by Monday, September 14. HOLA will make their selections and share their decisions by Friday, September 18. All entries should be submitted using this student art submission form . The submission form includes space for the artist’s name, school, grade, sponsoring teacher, a scan or photo of the piece, the media used, and an optional space for an artist statement. This flyer can be shared and printed to get the word out to students. Please email any questions about this opportunity to Casandra Gonzalez.
