Lincoln Street School

At Lincoln I teach classes Tuesday, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday. I teach all students in grades K-5.

A classroom featuring rows of desks and chairs arranged for student seating and learning activities.

Marion E. Zeh School

At Zeh School I teach Monday and Wednesday morning, grades K-2.

The arts, like science, are about discovery and invention.

The arts, like social studies, are about worlds and cultures beyond our personal experiences.

The arts, like math, are about systematic divisions of time and space.

The arts, like language studies, are about creativity, communication and interpretation.

The arts, like sports, are about pushing to the limit for a singular mission and about working cooperatively to accomplish a goal.

The arts are also about play, and play, too, is essential to learning.

Some ideas...

Materials:

Have a bin of art materials ready to go (I had a dresser at home when I was a child). Stock it with crayons, colored pencils, erasers, pencil sharpener, large paper, colored paper, glue sticks, scissors (regular and patterned), tape, a ruler, watercolor paints, etc.

Projects:

Help your child make a collage using scraps from the newspaper or a magazine. Tape some paper together to make a sculpture. Paint a picture of something in your house such as a pet, or think of something you like and draw it. Take a few pieces of paper and staple them together into a book. It is amazing what kids can make when they have a different format to work on. Don’t worry about the end piece, just create and see what happens!

Starters:

Get a few how to draw books. They are great because they break steps down into easy parts to build confidence in drawing. Results are amazing! There are so many coloring books and designs out there. Try coloring a few and then try making your own.
